For MG International, drowning prevention is a public health preoccupation

Prevention advice to reduce risksespio-senor-prevention
A swimming pool is the best place to enjoy swimming as the water is calm and clear, but especially because it can be totally supervised. In another word, it is the only aquatic place that can be equipped with a safety system. However, a safety system never replaces adult’s supervision or responsibility toward pool safety.

Swimming pool owners still have a preference for in-ground pools but above ground-pools meet an increasing success. With the market globalization, the swimming pool industry has to take up new challenges as, for instance, the implementation of new standards or swimming pool safety laws.

MG International : active member of different associations and federations
In countries where the pool industry market is mature, associations gather the main companies of the sector, be they manufacturers, distributors of pool material or builders. Their role is to ensure presentation and defend material and moral interests of the profession.
MG International is a member of the French Federation of pool professionals, the APSP and IPSSA in the USA , ACPQ in Québec and is very active at both AFNor and ASTM normalisation commissions.
MG International is also an active member and proud partner of famous non governmental associations committed to child safety, such as Safe Kids World Wide, the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) and Société de Sauvetage Québec.

A public health source of concern
Studies carried out in several countries show that drowning is often the second cause of domestic accidents amongst children under 5.
In the USA, according to the CPSC data (Consumer Product Safety Commission), each year, around 350 children under 5 drown in pools. Most of these accidents occur in residential neighborhoods.
Every year, around 2 600 children under 5 are treated in ER for near drowning accidents. Almost 79% of near drowning acidents occur in residential neighborhoods.
Most of the time, the accident is due to:
- a lack of adult supervision
- the fact that children learn to swim late
- a fall
Drowning in private swimming pools is a main public health source of concern for some countries. Some of them have taken legislative measures in order to face this problem, such as France and several states in the USA (California, New York, Florida, Connecticut, etc)
In France, the number of accidents significantly decreased between after the law was passed.
